its more difficult lately
finding the words
matching the colours
visual form eludes me
mark making an illusion
and so the day passes
fruitless into the night

thinking back to that weekend
I remember laughing and a passion
an aspiring need to be happy
and to be forever with you
but that was so long ago
another time and place
memories now tainted
teeter on the edge
frayed and elusive

it was a strange dream
during the slumberly morning hours
and you told me where to go
explaining how to get there
but I didn’t want to follow…

gray shadows dance playfully
in time with the flickering flame
swaying to a silent symphony
till whoosh… all is dark

today is the day
I’ll be happy
I’ve decided
and I will smile
or maybe I’ll wait
until another tomorrow

its confusing to think
to write clearly
and focus
today

a buzzing mosquito woke me
before the crashing thunder
shook the house
and you pulled me close
sleeping again
lullabied by the rain
till the daybreak warble of a magpie

wild green eyes stared intently back at me
piercing, lost and lonely, unruly and angry
and I watched those eyes steadily
in a dimly lit reflection at the back of a cluttered musty room
forgetting – or remembering – it was me

a pearl of salty sweat
drips down my chest
perpendicular to your shoulders
and splashes on the crinkled sheets
passion’s silent witness

a tenuous grip on reality
is what I told them you had
when you stared blankly
across the bare table
open mouth soundless
clenched fists loose
