A Christmas Poem…

“christmas comes but once a year”
you said cheerily
a nervous twang
gilding your voice
happiness a cloak
draping the apprehension
false hope building
avoiding the question
reverberating in your head
“will I be good enough?”

The Darkness

paw prints in my foot steps
the dark shadow skulks nearby
lingering on the periphery
posed and ready to pounce
my dark thoughts its only sustenance
hungrily it stalks its prey
glinting eyes stare unwavering
relentlessly grinding me ever down
until I open the door defeated
and let the black dog in

Forget

hungry eyes
stare vacantly

he can’t recall her name

the ravenous appetite of time
has devoured her face

fleeting memories
buried now
in petrified murkiness

and so he sits
shoulders sagging
unyielding weight
a relentless eternity
