Hope of a New Day

a heavy heat haze hangs
blanketing a sweaty landscape
stifling the hesitant breeze
sucking away its warm breathe
suffocating unquestioning inhabitants

empty tree limbs struggle under the weight
flower heads bow in submission
scattered fauna held captive in shadowy pockets
even the clear water’s reflection sits stagnant

all await the moon and the cool relief of darkness

all await a new day

Day Two Hundred and One: 9th February 2013

when your letter arrived
my hands shook in rythmic harmony
and a solitary bead of sweat
slid uncomfortably down my nose
I placed it (you) on the empty kitchen table
gazing at it (you) over the boiling kettle
that turned itself off and startled me
back to reality
and my bleary eyes rested on the clean white envelope
that would remain unopened

Day One Hundred and Seventy Eight: 17th January 2013

blood spilt thin
ruby red sapphires
YESTERDAY
hard white tiles
blank empty canvas
BEGGING
abstract falling swirls
pollock like splashes
TODAY
vision blurred gasping
destitute life ended
DEAD
