Day Three Hundred and Forty Nine: 7th July 2013

darkness looms on the periphery
held at bay by a single flickering flame
fuzzying the edges and creeping closer
gradually white turns to gray
threatening an all encompassing black

and the candle goes out

snuff…

Day One Hundred and Sixty Eight: 7th January 2013

When the curtain fluttered,
And the lightbulb dimmed,
Your warm breath brushed by,
And your musk scent hung;
Laughter echoed fleetingly.
I turned to steal a glimpse,
But you were still gone.

Day One Hundred and Sixty Two: 1st January 2013

A new year,
They tell me,
Is good…
Fresh ideas
And inspirations,
A cleansing
And new beginnings.

Or is happiness
Only old ideas disguised?
False uncertain futures,
Avoiding past demons
In a looming darkness,
Of inevitable regret.

Day One Hundred and Sixty One: 31st December 2012

I will remain in the dark today, wallowing
despairing for that which never was,
and peering into the distance for a light never lit.
I’ll walk along a line never drawn,
searching for the one never found.
Live happily in a house never built,
And lie in a sun that never shone.
Standing in the rain that never fell,
I will remember the dream never dreamt,
While clinging to a life never lived.

Day Eighty Seven: 18th October 2012

SKY BEACON

It was a long walk home,
On that dreary September night.
A mid solstice moon suspended,
Clinging to a clear crisp sky,
Seemingly a lone beacon,
Guiding my futile journey,
Through the moment you said NO…

Day Forty: 1st September 2012

THE DARKNESS

The magpies are warbling,
Another dawn edges toward the horizon,
Silently creeping,
The darkness flees,
Exposed, vulnerable,
The night’s secrets
Huddle in the shadows,
Awaiting the arrival,
Of dusk.
