trapped

crashing relentlessly
reverberating in my ears
your scream
piercing my haggard brain
untempered brutality
bruising my pulpy flesh
vitriolic words
destroying my once sane mind

only you

The Silence of Domestic Violence

sshhh
he may hear you
and use it against you

sshhh
listen and learn
knowledge is your only weapon

sshhh
watch and observe
learn his patterns and habits

sshhh
pack up your things
and quietly tiptoe away

hopefully

Yesterday and Tomorrow and Forever

laughing with friends

it is easy to forget
what happened yesterday
last week
last year

easy to not imagine
what will happen
tomorrow
next week

not easy to forgive
what will happen
forever

Longing for Tomorrow

cold seeps in through the cracks
an icy chill prickling my pores
ethereal water molecules freeze instantly
falling heavy from the dense laden air
thousands of scattering crystals crashing
refreezing on the dank stone floor
where I lie forever shivering naked
while the blazing sun warms the Earth outside
invisible from the window I do not have

To Exist

I close my eyes
and you disappear
hands over my ears
scathing words now muffled
rolling myself into a ball
I shrink into the corner
futilely trying to disappear
But I don’t
then you hit me

Day Three Hundred and Thirty Five: 23rd June 2013

we breathed again
when you left the room
atmosphere re-oxygenated
heartbeats slowed
trembling eased
fists unclenched
faces relaxed

for now…
