Goodbye Mother Earth

though the sun wept bitter tears
the drenched land remained barren

an unfertile thing made by men
laden with forgotten memories
clogged within thick wet dust

the exhaust fumes of yester-years progress
pathing the burden of tomorrows treachery

and the strangling death of Mother Earth

Hope of a New Day

a heavy heat haze hangs
blanketing a sweaty landscape
stifling the hesitant breeze
sucking away its warm breathe
suffocating unquestioning inhabitants

empty tree limbs struggle under the weight
flower heads bow in submission
scattered fauna held captive in shadowy pockets
even the clear water’s reflection sits stagnant

all await the moon and the cool relief of darkness

all await a new day

An Intervention

raging winds roaring
hurling gumnuts
crashing on the tin roof
stealing my slumber
momentarily dazed
I ponder the rattling
scurrying possums?
quarrelling crows?
dancing magpies?

OR

Mother Nature venting her anger?

Last Sunset

veiled in a murky gray smog
the sun hangs ominously
a blood orange in the sky
huge and simmering anger
eaten by the flat desolate horizon
until it is no more
and only a rippling haze remains

The End of the World

the moon rises black
against a dark sky
casting no shadow
reflection-less on still waters
presiding in silence
over a doomed landscape
tinged with putrid blood
fraught and forever condemned

Day Two Hundred and Thirteen: 21st February 2013

cracked and dry, sprawling outward
brown and barren, natural fractals
the flat landscape extends forever
to the horizon
then reaches up begging for water

but no rain will fall here
denuded and impotent
the earth will remain
an eternity of nothingness

a sad testament to humanity
