Gone…

you weren’t there
when I looked over my shoulder
and discovered the place
where your shadow used to be

dazed and confused
I lay down feeling the ground
where once you stood
as if to conjure you back

but I’m too late

gone forever you will always be

Day Three Hundred and Sixty One: 19th July 2013

it wasn’t me you saw
through the mist and rain

my brolly is blue not yellow

it wasn’t me you saw
on that foggy afternoon

my coat is red not green

it wasn’t me you saw
reflecting the sparkling sunshine

my hat has polka dots not stripes

it wasn’t me you saw
shadowed by the accumulating clouds

my existence was expunged long ago

Day Three Hundred and Fifty Five: 13th July 2013

you ask me why it doesn’t rain ‘up’
I answer gravity

you ask me why grass is green and not red
I answer chlorophyll

you ask me why stars twinkle and planets don’t
I answer the Earth’s atmosphere

you ask me why ice is cold and not hot
I answer it can be both

you ask my favourite colour
I answer orange or maybe purple

you ask why he went away leaving you
I answer I don’t know

Day Two Hundred and Fifty Five: 3th April 2013

on that dreary day long ago
thick air swirled around you
a stagnancy emanating
filling my nostrils
burning my eyes
till you turned away
and were gone

Day Two Hundred and Seven: 15th February 2013

pinned clumsily to the bare wall with a rusty nail
hangs a coffee stained photograph
smiling at the cluttered room
where you used to sit and read

glancing at this last remnant uncertainly
your green eyes stare back unblinking
at the world promising limitless possibilities
which you left desperately long ago
