playfully swirling
a cool wind scatters gumnuts across a rusty tin roof
spilt seeds bouncing randomly
waiting to be blown across the late autumn sky
tumbling and falling
finding a final resting place
a soft patch of silky dirt
snuggling in
they await the warmth of spring
the soft patter of rain
the miraculous transformation
a sapling

what has become of the seeds
once sown
tilled rich moist soil
fertile
red dirt blanket
enveloping warmth
keeping safe the stalks
feeding nourishing
what has become of the seeds
brown bare earth lay
bountiless
only dead dust blowing
trapped within a barren windswept bowl

robust gum leaves
seemingly delicate
tossed in the breeze
sparkle jewel like
bedazzled in sunlight
Mother Nature’s fairylights

raging winds roaring
hurling gumnuts
crashing on the tin roof
stealing my slumber
momentarily dazed
I ponder the rattling
scurrying possums?
quarrelling crows?
dancing magpies?
OR
Mother Nature venting her anger?

a voluminous breeze
wafts between the leaves
fluttering gently rustling
then suddenly a lone leaf
breaks free floating
drifting downward
weaving to and fro
landing soundlessly
…crunch

green sweet
fresh leaf
breeze gentle
time passing
red tones
floating down
morbid crunch

once a gentle breeze
a ravaging wind
announced its arrival
a low rumble boring down
roaring across a sublime landscape
now broken and torn
hungry after hours of travel
chewing up trees
spitting them out
an appetite unsated
an anger unsatisfied
pink flesh uneaten

blue fades to gray
and the blustering wind gusts
swirling Gaia’s flotsam and jetsam
a tumultuous whirlwind
amidst pelting torrential rain
no fluttering of wings today
no melodious chirp
only the elemental ebb and flow of nature’s fury

a musical conversation
emerging from the treetops
wafting sing-song
lyrical melodies airbourne
bursting with elequant courtship
a warbling serenade
